Suspect Denies Killing Daughter of Girlfriend
A Normal Heights man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter, whose body has not been found, pleaded innocent Friday to a murder charge.
John Moncrief, 30, also pleaded innocent to charges that he threatened witnesses to a crime. Those witnesses were his girlfriend, Linda Williams, and her 12-year-old son, Matthew.
San Diego Municipal Court Judge Nicholas Kasimatis ordered Moncrief held in County Jail without bail. He set a preliminary hearing for Nov. 7.
Moncrief is accused of killing Amber Avey in February and dumping her body into the San Diego River.
The slaying came to light after Williams told authorities about it earlier this week during Moncrief’s preliminary hearing on charges he beat Williams.
