UC Irvine last week took about 400 Orange County community leaders on a “hard hat” preview of the campus’ new gymnasium, the Donald Bren Events Center.
The $15-million facility has a target date of opening in January.
Steven Neal, director of the center, acknowledged that there’s been considerable speculation that the 5,000-seat gym-concert hall would not open as scheduled.
“There’s been a lot of rumors on campus that it’ll be delayed, but our plans are still to open in January,” he said.
