As a Hollywood screenwriter, I find Allred’s reaction more worthy of comment than the Madonna’s record itself.

Her demand that Madonna make a statement or another record “supporting the opposite point of view” is offensive to any of us working in the arts. Will I, too, be required to disavow or re-write my next screenplay if it doesn’t meet Allred’s standards of social responsibility?

Socialism and freedom of expression don’t mix. If Allred and her ilk have not gained complete control over our lives, it’s not because they haven’t tried.
