Utsman said Lockheed Space Operations Co. will lay off 834 employees, McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. 133, and EG&G; 141. Utsman said technicians and quality-control people, not the engineering force, were affected by the layoffs. He said NASA hopes to rehire many of those who are laid off a year from now.
