SACRAMENTO — Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday signed into law a bill to require local legislative bodies to post written detailed agendas of items of business to be discussed 72 hours in advance of meetings.
Citizen lawsuits could be filed to negate action taken on non-agenda items.
The bill was sparked by a Los Angeles City Council vote granting its members a pay raise that was later thrown out by the courts. It was authored by Assemblyman Lloyd Connelly (D-Sacramento).
