Tinley Loses To Allen In Japan Triathlon

TOKYO — Mark Allen, trailing by five seconds after the swimming and cycling portions, overtook fellow American Scott Tinley in the 19.2-mile race Sunday to win a triathlon competition by nearly 14 minutes.
Allen, who clocked 6 hours, 56 minutes, 26 seconds, overtook Tinley in the first 3 miles of the race. Tinley, who won twelve triathlon competitions in 1985, was second in 7:10:17.
Julie Moss of the United States was the best among 61 women competitors, finishing tenth overall in 8:19:37.
