A Los Angeles man who witnesses said was driving more than 100 m.p.h. was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of felony manslaughter and drunk driving after his car crashed into a bridge abutment, killing one of his passengers, Los Angeles police said.

Jaime Nuno, 21, was being held at Van Nuys Jail after the 3:20 a.m. accident on Sherman Way east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood, Sgt. Ron Barnes said.

The victim, Sergio Ruelas, 26, of Pomona, was thrown from the front passenger seat. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he died two hours later from head injuries, Barnes said.
