San Diego
Ten patrons were evacuated Thursday night when a fire broke out at the Club Star bar in downtown San Diego, San Diego Fire officials said.
The bartender smelled smoke coming from the bar’s air vent at about 10:20 p.m. He alerted the owner, who then called the fire department, officials said.
The second-alarm fire was contained by 50 firefighters to the liquor storage area between the first and second floor of the Astor Hotel at 421 E St., near Horton Plaza. The hotel had been empty since Aug. 18, when renovations began.
No one was injured and damages to the contents have been estimated at $50,000.
