Striking machinists at three Caterpillar Inc. plants in Illinois overwhelmingly approved a 32-month contract, ending a monthlong strike and triggering the eventual recall of 1,900 workers laid off during the walkout. Members of Local 851 of the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace workers voted 1,659 to 426 to approve the pact, which provides raises of 27 cents an hour for more than half of the union members.
