Infielder Rod Stillwell has announced that he will not return to Oral Roberts and instead will transfer to Moorpark College, where he will play for his dad, Ron Stillwell. Rod, who attended Thousand Oaks High, started at shortstop for Oral Roberts as a freshman last season.

Bud Murray, baseball coach at Hart High from 1973 through 1980, has been selected to return to the post pending approval by the William S. Hart School District Board of Trustees. Murray, who also coached at Pierce and Mission colleges, will replace Frank Sanchez, who resigned to become pitching coach at USC under Mike Gillespie.

Manny Vallejo of Burbank stopped Tony Burroughs 34 seconds into the third round in a lightweight bout Monday night at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. Vallejo improved his record to 2-2. In the main event, Mark Parea was awarded a split decision in a lightweight bout with Roberto Cantu of North Hollywood.

Doug Harper of Chatsworth shot a 6-under par 282 to finish tied for 18th at the $75,000 Queen Mary Open at the Lakewood Country Club on Sunday. Harper collected $1,004, while Duffy Waldorf of Tarzana shot a 283 and won $619. Jeff Wilson of Vallejo shot 273 to win a first-place prize of $12,000.

Jon DeGennaro of the Westlake American Legion team has been selected its most valuable player by the team’s sponsor, Conejo Valley Post 515, and also was named the Most Valuable Pitcher by American Legion District 16. DeGennaro was 5-1 with a 2.84 earned-run average and had a .467 batting average, highest on the team. DeGennaro’s teammate, Sean Thompson, has been named the team’s “Outstanding Sportsman.†He batted .390, with 6 home runs and 25 runs batted in.
