Certron Posts Reduced Sales, Loss for Quarter

Citing a decrease in its custom assembly business and the costs of closing one of its plants, Certron Corp. posted reduced sales and a sharper net loss for its fiscal 1986 third quarter ended July 31.

The Anaheim manufacturer of recording tapes, videocassettes and floppy disks said it sustained a third-quarter net loss of $142,000, compared to a year-earlier loss of $17,000. Sales for the period were $4.9 million, down 24.3% from $6.5 million.

For the first nine months, Certron posted a gain of $61,000, up from a net loss of $224,000 last year. Sales of $18.3 million were down 3.1% from $18.8 million.

The company blamed the downturn in sales on a decrease in its assembly activity throughout most of the third quarter but said a late quarter increase in backlog should carry over into the fourth quarter.
