J.W. Mailliard III Dies; Prominent S.F. Civic Leader
SAN FRANCISCO — John Ward Mailliard III, a prominent member of the San Francisco business and civic community, died Thursday after a long illness. He was 72.
He served on the San Francisco Redevelopment Commission in the 1950s, and on the city Police Commission in the 1960s.
Mailliard was chairman of the local March of Dimes and of the board of Bromar Inc. food brokers. He also served on the boards of the American Cancer Society, Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co., the California Academy of Sciences and Wells Fargo Bank.
“Jack Mailliard served our city in countless ways throughout his long and distinguished life,” said Mayor Dianne Feinstein in a written statement.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Mailliard, deputy protocol chief for the City of San Francisco, and three daughters by a previous marriage.
