An area at 5th and Hesperian streets has been targeted as the preferred site for a sixth new elementary school in the Santa Ana Unified School District.
The district’s board of trustees on Tuesday night said that a 6 1/2-acre site at the corner of 5th and Hesperian streets would be the best location. Anthony J. Dalessi, assistant superintendent, estimated that the site would cost about $4.7 million.
The school district had previously targeted five other locations as preferred sites for new elementary schools. All of the new schools are expected to open in the fall of 1988. The building boom in the district has been prompted by an increase of 1,000 students a year for the past decade, principally as a result of immigration from Mexico and Asia.
