The City Council Monday night approved the allocation of $10,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for a program to inform residents about housing discrimination.
The program, which may be printed or turned into a video for the city’s public cable television station, will also include information on home, apartment and commercial rehabilitation loans, said Robert Berry, housing coordinator.
The city also set aside $15,000 for a city-operated fair housing service. On July 1, the Fair Housing Council of Long Beach cancelled its yearly contract with the city when funding for the service was cut from $15,000 to $10,000.
The city is expected to receive $621,761 in Community Development Block Grant funds for housing programs in fiscal year 1986-87. The rest of the money will be used for rehabilitation loans, graffiti removal and administrative costs.
