The National Assn. of Manufacturers said it sees little improvement in the huge U.S. trade deficit through 1987, in part because its own members are too complacent about meeting foreign competition head on. “American manufacturers are not sufficiently aggressive given the full-scale battle the foreign producers are putting on to hold their share of the market,” said Jerry Jasinowski, NAM executive vice president and chief economist.
