A La Canada Flintridge teen-ager was fined and placed on probation after pleading guilty to furnishing alcohol at his home to a minor who died in an accident there.

Glendale Municipal Court Commissioner Daniel Calabro last week placed 18-year-old Simon D’Arcy on probation for two years and ordered him to pay a $340 fine. D’Arcy was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, including working with Safe Rides, the nonprofit group that provides transportation home to youths who have been drinking.

D’Arcy was arrested on the misdemeanor charge in connection with the May 31 death of 17-year-old Joseph Miller Lutz, also of La Canada Flintridge. Lutz died when he fell off a second-floor balcony at D’Arcy’s house after attending a large pay-for-admission party there.

In response to Lutz’s death, the La Canada Flintridge City Council passed an emergency law prohibiting pay-for-admission parties and declared a crackdown on teen-age drinking.
