Truce Maker Wins Feature Race at Del Mar by Three Lengths

DEL MAR â€”  Truce Maker, ridden by Frank Olivares, led from the start Monday and scored a three-length victory in the $40,000 feature race for older horses at Del Mar.

The favored Clever Song, ridden by Fernando Toro, finished second, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Spectacular Joke, ridden by Gary Stevens, in a field of seven 3-year-olds and up.

Truce Maker, who earned $22,000 for the victory, was clocked in 1:41 for 1 1/16 miles over a firm turf course.

Sent off the 2-1 second choice, Truce Maker paid $6.40, $3.20 and $2.60. Clever Song returned $2.80 and $2.40, and Spectacular Joke paid $3.

Truce Maker assumed command at once and had enough to hold off Clever Song, who challenged at the furlong marker but faltered down the stretch. Spectacular Joke rallied from last.
