S. Africa Jails Black for T-Shirt Slogan

PRETORIA, South Africa — A young black who wore a T-shirt with an African National Congress slogan has been sentenced to three years in jail for furthering the aims of the outlawed guerrilla group.
Andries Mkawanzi, 20, was arrested for wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogans “Viva ANC,†“Cry for Our Beloved Country†and “Amandla†(Power) at a funeral in a black township. Half the three-year sentence was suspended by the Pretoria magistrate who imposed it Thursday.
