Argentines Celebrate in Southland
Caravans of flag-waving Argentine supporters paraded through the streets of Santa Monica Sunday following the country’s 3-2 victory over West Germany in the World Cup soccer final, Santa Monica Police said.
The enthusiastic celebration lasted for several hours, and made its way past a row of British-style pubs, an obvious gesture to Argentina’s 1982 troubles with England over the Falklands Islands. There were no reported arrests, however.
Celebrations also were reported in two local Argentine restaurants, Las Pampas in Southgate and Don Felipe in Hollywood.
