Oceanside’s Lambresi Wins Surfing Title
OCEANSIDE — Oceanside’s Mike Lambresi made the best use of the “home wave†advantage Sunday to win the $5,000 Aloe-Up Cup surfing title at Oceanside Harbor.
Surfing in waves of three and four feet and shifty conditions, Lambresi used his experience in the Oceanside waters to defeat Chris Adams of Carlsbad, Todd Martin of Encinitas and Matt Archbold of Dana Point in the four-man final heat.
Lambresi earned $1,500 by winning the fourth of six stops on the U.S. Pro Surfing Tour. Lambresi, who has surfed in only two events this year, moved into 13th place on the overall points list.
Brian McNulty of Capistrano Beach still leads the overall standings even though he did not surf at Oceanside this weekend. McNulty competed in a World Tour event in South Africa.
David Barr of Carlsbad, who finished seventh Sunday, moved into second place in the overall standings. Martin, by finishing third, took over third place overall.
The next event in the U.S. Pro Tour is on July 19 and 20 in Malibu.
