San Diego Man Dies in Fiery I-15 Crash
A 40-year-old man was killed Saturday in Rancho Bernardo after he lost control of his car at nearly 100 m.p.h. and skidded across Interstate 15, plowing head-on into another vehicle.
The driver and two passengers of the other car miraculously escaped with only moderate injuries in the 3 p.m. accident, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Robert Russell Weedman of San Diego died in the accident after his car burst into flames, a coroner’s office spokesman said.
Highway Patrol officials identified the driver of the second car as Dan Garren, 28, of San Diego. Passengers in the car were Susan Garren, 25, and Debra Anderson, 14, both of San Diego. All three suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Escondido-area hospitals for treatment, a CHP spokeswoman said.
