John Chester Williams, who coached the U.S. archery team to victory during the 1984 Summer Games was arrested after police allegedly discovered marijuana growing in his back yard, Fullerton police said.

Williams, 32, was arrested on suspicion of growing and possessing marijuana, Detective Kevin Hamilton said. Williams was released on his own recognizance shortly after his Thursday afternoon arrest.

Police also arrested his wife, Tamera, 27, and she was also released on her own recognizance, Hamilton said.

The couple was arrested after an anonymous telephone tip, Hamilton said. More than 30 pounds of marijuana was found inside the home and 27 marijuana plants were growing outside, the detective said.

At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Williams coached the men’s archery team to gold and silver medals.
