A woman who filed suit against a man alleging that his dog had killed her dog said she kept her pet’s body in the freezer “so I would have the evidence.â€

Frances Ripley, who is seeking $700 in damages for the death of her dog, Michael, brought the frozen and boxed white Maltese dog to court last week for a hearing.

She has filed suit against Charles Joslin, claiming that his dog attacked and killed her dog last October. She said she kept the frozen carcass to preserve teeth marks that came from Joslin’s dog.

“I wrapped Michael in a towel and put it in the freezer so I would have the evidence,†said Ripley, 66, of Altamont. “She’s safe there, and I still have her in the freezer.â€

Town Justice Steven Simon, who reserved judgment in the small claims suit, refused comment on whether the dog helped the woman’s case.

“I did not retain this evidence,†he added.
