CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Evangelist Leighton Ford has left the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assn. with which he served for 31 years and has launched a new organization, Leighton Ford Ministries, to concentrate on developing younger Christian leaders.
Ford, a Presbyterian and son-in-law of Graham, told a news conference that in an “increasingly younger world” often preoccupied with material possessions, young leaders are needed to hold up Christ’s cause.
He said he would like to see “yuppies”--young urban professionals--turn into “yummies--young urban missionaries.”
