Virginia Trotter and Leroy Ervin, University of Georgia administrators who were defendants in a lawsuit that exposed charges of academic corruption at the school, have agreed to take demotions and, in Trotter’s case, a nominal pay cut but will remain on the faculty, state officials announced.

The action, according to University System Chancellor H. Dean Propst, is intended to “complete the healing process” from the suit that was decided in favor of former English instructor Jan Kemp, who claimed that she was fired from the Developmental Studies Program--a cluster of remedial programs--for protesting academic favoritism toward athletes.

Trotter, a top administrator since 1977, accepted a $13,600 pay cut from the state, but the deficit will be made up by the University of Georgia Foundation.
