The World Bank has postponed a farm loan vote.
The agency will vote on a controversial $450-million loan for Brazil at the request of the United States, monetary sources said. The loan, which would be used to reform Brazil’s agricultural sector, has been opposed by the United States but is still expected to receive bank approval. The loan has deeply angered U.S. farmers and some members of Congress who view it as giving assistance to foreign competitors of financially strapped U.S. farmers.
