The SEC filed charges against Charter Co.
The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against the company; its chairman, Raymond K. Mason, and Carl A. Steighner, a former executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Jacksonville, Fla., firm. The SEC alleged that Charter filed misstatements and omitted material facts in its annual report and other documents in 1983 and 1984. Without admitting or denying the allegations in the complaint, the defendants consented to the terms of settlement in the case.
