Jack McMahon, assistant coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, was hired by the Golden State Warriors as director of personnel.
McMahon said he will focus on possible trades involving Warrior center Joe Barry Carroll if Carroll and top draft pick Chris Washburn don’t appear to be working well together. The Warriors picked the 6-11 Washburn of North Carolina State No. 3 overall in last week’s draft, and McMahon indicated he thought the team may be better off without two high-priced big men.
“Did you see Houston in the playoffs?” McMahon said, referring to the Rockets’ Twin Towers, Ralph Sampson and Akeem Olajuwon. “Did you notice that they were only effective when one of them was on the bench?”
