Jennifer Watson Places 8th in Barrel Racing
Jennifer Watson of Lake View Terrace, with a time of 15.15 seconds, placed eighth in the first round of barrel-racing competition Friday night at the Great Western Savings Championship Rodeo at the Forum. She was the top Valley finisher among 20 riders in the competition, which will continue tonight and Sunday afternoon.
Rose Webb of Perris, Calif., was first in barrel racing with a time of 14.47 seconds.
Sammie Brackenbury of Saugus finished 10th in the first round of the event with a time of 15.9 seconds.
Marilyn Peterson of Reseda finished in 15 seconds but was penalized five seconds for knocking over one of the three barrels. The penalty knocked her out of the top 10.
Mike Watson finished fourth with 66 points in the first round of bull-riding competition.
In the calf-roping competition’s first round, Phil Rawlins of Newhall finished last out of seven riders with a time of 26.7 seconds.
The calf-roping team of Shane Barmby of Sylmar and Mike Pyeatt of Ramona failed in their attempt and did not get a time.
