BRIEFLY : Amateur Golfers Battle for California Golf Title

Twelve players from the Valley area, including Los Angeles City champion Jim Lundstrom of Chatsworth, will be in a field of more than 200 golfers at Monday’s California Golf Assn. Amateur Championships at Pebble Beach.

The tournament consists of three stroke-play rounds, two days of single-elimination match play and a 36-hole finale next Saturday. In all, the winning golfer will play 11 rounds in eight days.

Joining Lundstrom in the field will be Marshall Davis of Hidden Hills, Buz Greene of Thousand Oaks, Paul Jordan of Studio City, David Olsen and Bob Warbutton of Sherman Oaks, Dan Pouliot of Burbank, James Schaeffer of Woodland Hills, Craig Steinberg and Michael Turner of Van Nuys, Mitch Voges of Simi Valley and Charles Weil of Encino.

Ventura Players Buoy U.S. Field Hockey Team

The U.S. men’s field hockey team, headed by five 1984 Olympians, will play the first of five test matches against Trinidad-Tobago at East Los Angeles College today at 10:30 a.m. The teams will also play Sunday and Wednesday at East L.A., with matches Monday and Thursday scheduled for Moorpark College at 5 p.m.

Five players from Ventura County will debut on the national team during the series. One of the players, David Wisner, was injured in practice last week but should be available in the series.

A sixth Ventura player, Mohammed Barakat, 19, from Moorpark College, has been promoted to center-halfback for this series. Barakat played on the 1984 Olympic team. Lazers Move Executive Offices Back to the Forum

The L.A. Lazers have given the Valley the boot.

After nine months in Sherman Oaks, the Lazers, of the Major Indoor Soccer League, have packed up and moved their executive offices back to the Forum, where they play their games.

Ron Weinstein, team vice president, said the move was made to accommodate owner Jerry Buss, who wants to become more involved in the day-to-day operations. Buss also owns the Forum, as well as the Lakers and Kings.
