4 Charged With Fraudulently Collecting Tax Refunds
Three San Fernando Valley residents and a Los Angeles woman were indicted by a federal grand jury Friday on charges that they filed multiple federal income tax returns under false names to collect $23,309 in undeserved tax refunds.
Named in a 20-count indictment were Luisita Ignacio of Los Angeles, Marita Juse, 43, of Sylmar and a Sun Valley couple, Clarita, 41, and Leonido Jusi, 45.
They were accused of conspiracy, theft of government checks and making false claims against the government.
The indictment said Juse and the Jusis filed a total of 23 tax returns under false names for the years 1982-83, accompanied by fictitious wage and witholding tax statements. Six refund checks were mailed during 1983-84 and deposited in an account opened by Ignacio, the indictment said.
The charges carry penalties ranging up to to 115 years in prison and $170,000 in fines.
