Universal Sues; Don Johnson Returns to ‘Miami’
Universal City Studios filed a $20-million lawsuit Friday against “Miami Vice” star Don Johnson in a bid to end his weeklong salary holdout--and it worked.
After several days of sniffing at the studio’s $38,500-per-episode offer, Johnson was scheduled to report for work, linen coat in hand, Monday morning.
“We made an amicable settlement, and he’s going back to work,” shrugged agent Mike Belson, though he would not disclose how much Johnson has agreed to for his services as the lanky, ill-shaven detective.
In its suit, Universal claims the popular Friday night detective show simply would not be the same without Johnson’s services as Sonny Crockett.
Universal Vice President Ben Halpern said that with shooting to resume in Miami, the lawsuit filed only hours before the agreement is “of no consequence.”
