Chavez Marches for Rehiring of Strikers

United Farm Workers of America head Cesar Chavez joined more than 60 people Thursday evening in a march to the Pasadena home of Clougherty Packing Co. President Joseph Clougherty to deliver a letter asking reinstatement of what they claimed were nearly 100 employees never rehired after a strike that ended last December.

Clougherty was not home. His brother, Bernard Clougherty, vice president of the firm that produces Farmer John meats, said earlier that only about 50 members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 274 still remain off their old jobs and are being taken back a few at a time as business permits.
