Residents of the Riverside County community of Coronita submitted more than 100 pages of signatures opposing annexation to the surrounding City of Corona, prompting the Corona City Council to delay a hearing on whether the annexation should go to a vote. The petition drive’s organizers claim they turned in more than 800 signatures of voters, more than enough to kill the annexation proposal and leave their triangular enclave under county control. If the petitions fall short of including opposition from more than half the area’s 1,407 registered voters, the protest hearing will be reopened July 16, possibly leading to a communitywide vote.
