Laguna Beach : Ueberroth to Speak at High School Graduation
Baseball Commissioner Peter V. Ueberroth) will be the commencement speaker at tonight’s graduation ceremonies for Laguna Beach High School seniors.
The gala event, to be staged at the Festival of Arts’ Irvine Bowl on Laguna Canyon Road, will include 30 girls holding flower-covered arches through which the seniors will march, the school’s 45-piece band and a color slide of each of the 240 graduates as they are called up for their diplomas.
“The ceremony is the closest thing to a Hollywood production you’ll ever see,” said Jim Toomey, Laguna High’s director of student activities and athletics. “It’s quite fabulous compared to other schools.”
The graduation is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., with Ueberroth speaking at 8 p.m. The baseball commissioner will be introduced by Judge David O. Carter. Referring to Ueberroth, Toomey said, “He doesn’t do high school graduations but his best friend’s goddaughter is graduating.”
