Lester Piggott, who rode 113 horses to victory at Royal Ascot, got his first winner at the track as a trainer on the season’s opening day at Ascot, England. With Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family on hand, Piggott saddled Cutting Blade in the Coventry Stakes, and American jockey Cash Asmussen rode the 11-1 shot to victory in a five-horse photo finish.
