No Such Thing
In the 1960s Lyndon Johnson escalated the wars on poverty and in Vietnam but failed to raise taxes to pay for them. This helped spark the massive inflation the United States suffered in the 1970s.
Your editorial (June 6), “Budget Bystander,” indicates President Reagan is dooming himself to repeating Johnson’s mistakes as he escalates the Cold War arms race without adequate funding to pay for it.
When will our Presidents ever learn there is no such thing as a free war?
