Eric Mastalir, the State 3,200-meter champion from Jesuit High School in Carmichael, ran the second fastest prep 3,000 meters ever to highlight the Golden West Invitational track and field meet at Sacramento. He raced away from twin brother Mark on the last lap and was timed in 8:07.60, second only to the pending high school mark of 8:05.8 set earlier this year by John Trautmann of Monroe-Woodbury High in Central Valley, N.Y.
Mark Mastalir was second in 8:10.54.
