A Church as a Polling Place

A wrong impression was given about our church in a recent article about “Electoral Sideshows--Some Voters End Up Going to the Mat” (June 4). Our church has for years been a polling place and will continue to be one. The election commission made the decision to have the primary at the karate school because we had building expansion plans under way and did not know what shape our building would be in.
Unitarian Universalist societies have always been active in local communities, and many of our members are active in local politics, and several worked at the poll in the primary.
As a religion that stresses free thinking and freedom of choice in beliefs, we certainly encourage voting! And, we will be a polling place for this fall’s general election and for elections into the future.
