The Weingart Foundation has awarded a $250,000 grant to St. Barnabas Senior Center in the center’s campaign to raise $3 million for a new 28,000-square-foot facility at 675 S. Carondelet.

The grant brings the St. Barnabas center to 73% of the goal of its campaign, which also received a $1.7-million allocation from the state’s Senior Center Bond Act. Corporations, individuals and other foundations also have contributed.

St, Barnabas Senior Center last year delivered nearly 200,000 social services to more than 19,000 clients. The new center will house existing services, allow for a 50% expansion, integrate nutritional and social services on site and provide day care facilities for the Alzheimer Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, a joint project of St. Barnabas and USC.
