The FBI said it believes “mountain man” Claude L. Dallas Jr., who has been on the bureau’s most wanted list since his escape from Idaho State Prison on March 30, is in the San Francisco area. Dallas, 36, was serving 30 years on a voluntary manslaughter conviction in the 1981 slayings of two Idaho Department of Fish and Game officers when he escaped by cutting through two heavy chain-link fences, and was not missed for three hours. Special Agent Ellen Knowlton said Dallas’ girlfriend, Margaret Lundy, was spotted Friday night in Newark, a city 30 miles southeast of San Francisco, giving rise to speculation that he must be nearby.
