Newport Beach : Councilman Agee Says He Won’t Run Again
Saying that it is time to “jump off” the City Council, Bill Agee announced Tuesday that he will not seek a second term in November.
“I have accomplished what I’ve wanted to do, particularly getting the traffic bypass around Corona del Mar,” Agee said. “That’s been my main concern because of all the growth in the eastern part of Newport Beach.”
The 49-year-old professional photographer said he decided to cut his political life short in order to spend more time on his business.
“It’s time to jump off. People tend to stay around public office too long and lose their freshness,” Agee said.
In addition to Agee’s seat, three other council posts are up for reelection in November: Donald Strauss, Evelyn Hart and Jackie Heather.
Agee spent eight years as a planning commissioner before his election in 1982.
