Six From County Are Named All-Stars
Eighteen of the best baseball players in the state, including six from Orange County, will play in the 10th annual California-Oklahoma prep all-star series this weekend.
Doubleheaders are scheduled for Saturday in Oklahoma City and Sunday in Tulsa with a single game Monday in Tulsa.
The six county players are first baseman Bob Hamelin of Irvine, outfielder Robbie Katzaroff of Los Alamitos, pitcher Steve Halweg and catcher Eric Cox of Esperanza, infielder Jim Doyle of Fountain Valley and pitcher Wayne Helm of Laguna Hills. Other Southern California players selected include Arcadia pitcher Tim Lindsay and outfielder Shaun Murphy and Simi Valley shortstop Dave Milstien.
The players were selected from the 17th in-state all-star game series last weekend at Stockton between Southern and Northern California. The South won the opening game behind Lindsay, 17-8, but the North won Saturday, 6-4, and Sunday, 12-10. The South leads the series, 19-13.
