Plane Crashes Into Home, One Killed
DEL REY OAKS, Calif. — At least one person was killed when a small airplane crashed into a house and erupted into flames on the heavily touristed Monterey Peninsula late Sunday afternoon.
A dispatcher for the Monterey County Emergency Communication Center said it was not known how many people were aboard the twin-engined Bonanza-35, or whether anyone was in the house at the time.
Monterey Police Officer Thomas Siskron said the aircraft plunged into a residential area of Del Rey Oaks, between Monterey and Seaside.
Nick Ford, manager of Monterey Peninsula Airport, said the plane was making its approach and was “between one-quarter and one-half mile” from the airport.
Ford said he had no idea what caused the accident, which he said occurred in “perfect” weather.
