Local News in Brief : Collision Takes Lives of 2 Teen-Age Sisters
Two teen-age sisters from Utah were killed and their brother, parents and four other people were injured when their station wagon collided with a van in Newhall and burst into flames, authorities said Sunday.
Karol Romanosky, 17, of Brigham City, Utah, was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday and her 14-year-old sister, Kristin, died of injuries a short time later at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer.
The girls’ father, John Romanosky, 41, was driving east on Placerita Canyon Road shortly before 4:30 p.m. when he ran a red light at Sierra Highway and was struck broadside by the van, Keifer said.
The station wagon burst into flames after the impact, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department records.
Kevin Romanosky, 10, and two other passengers in the station wagon, Ceaszor Gonzalez, 17, and Marco Beck-Peccoz, 18, also of Brigham City, were seriously injured and were taken to Henry Mayo hospital, Keifer said. A hospital spokesman on Sunday declined to provide details of their conditions.
Keifer said Romanosky and his wife, Nora, 43, also suffered minor injuries. Michael Oaks, 36, of Canyon Country, the driver of the van that struck the Romanosky vehicle, and his 10-year-old son, Matthew, also suffered minor injuries, Keifer said. All four were treated at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and released, a hospital spokesman said.
No charges were filed against either driver, Keifer said.
