Festivities Planned for City’s 30th Birthday
A concert by a Marine Corps band, open houses and a five-kilometer run will be part of the festivities marking Garden Grove’s 30th anniversary June 18.
City Hall and the police and fire departments will hold open houses throughout the afternoon. Police will offer free fingerprinting of children and will stage exhibitions by the SWAT and K-9 units, said Kathy Roth, senior administrative assistant.
Jack Linkletter, son of Art Linkletter, will address a community dinner that evening. Although invitations have been sent, the dinner is open to all residents. Tickets are $15 prepaid. A special guest at the dinner will be Kevin Pegan, the first person born in the city after its incorporation.
The celebration will continue on June 21, starting with the 5-kilometer run at 8:30 a.m. For a $6 registration fee, runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Later, clowns, mimes, animal characters and other performers will be at a festival on Main Street and the Village Green.
The celebration will be capped off with a free concert by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from El Toro at noon and a speech by Mayor Jonathan H. Cannon.
