Garden Grove : Passenger Dies, Drivers Arrested in Collision
A rear-end collision early Saturday involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck left one man dead and another man seriously injured, police said.
Kevin Land, 23, of Garden Grove, a passenger on the motorcycle, suffered massive head injuries and died at the scene, the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Lamplighter Street.
Randy Charles Hall, 26, also of Garden Grove, the driver of the motorcycle, suffered a broken ankle and possible skull fracture. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol but was released for treatment to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in stable but guarded condition.
Timothy Edward Winton, 19, of Garden Grove, the driver of the truck, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter and booked at the Orange County jail on $25,000 bail. According to Sgt. Randy Tucker, the collision occurred at 1:30 a.m. when Winton made a right turn from the southbound lane of Lamplighter into the westbound lane of Chapman. The motorcycle, traveling westbound on Chapman, struck the rear of the truck. Both Land and Hall were thrown from the motorcycle.
