Airliners Barely Avoid Collision
Associated Press
STOCKHOLM — A Seattle-bound British Airways jumbo jetliner nearly collided with a Scandinavian Airlines System DC-8 over Iceland, an SAS spokeswoman said today. The two aircraft were carrying a total of 588 people.
The spokeswoman said the British Airways Boeing 747 and the SAS plane passed each other Monday while using the same air corridor at the same altitude--33,000 feet--over southwestern Iceland. The captain of the SAS plane, which was headed from Greenland to Denmark, said he did not see the jumbo jet until it swept past.
