Kern County sheriff’s deputies failed to find a Los Angeles man and woman who disappeared while trying to swim across the swollen Kern River over the weekend. The two, whose names were not released, were seen in the river eight miles inside the mouth of Kern River Canyon east of Bakersfield. In the meantime, the body of another man, believed to have been in a car that ran off Round Mountain Road on May 25, was found floating in the river near Beardsley Weir. The decomposed body of yet another man was discovered in the river near Democrat Hot Springs. Identifications were not available. Earlier in the weekend, Dr. Eugene McCarty, 45, a Fresno physician, drowned in the Kings River east of Fresno when his raft capsized.
