The Boston Red Sox will examine Bruce Hurst today in Boston to determine how long the pitcher will be sidelined with a groin injury that forced him out of Saturday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Hurst, 28, collapsed on the mound and was carried off the field after landing awkwardly on his left leg in the fifth inning.
“When I pushed off delivering the pitch, it hurt like a son of a gun. It was like a knife, it hurt so bad,” said Hurst, who is second in the American League with 89 strikeouts. “I hadn’t felt anything in my groin area before. This surprised me because my hamstring has been bothering me.”
